International Day of Light on 16 May: Switch to sustainable LED lighting now

May 16, 2024

To mark the International Day of Light on 16 May, SchahlLED Lighting GmbH is calling on people to think about installing sustainable lighting systems now.

"UNESCO's International Day of Light is a good opportunity to switch to smart LED lighting," says SchahlLED Managing Director Carsten Weber.

With the EU-wide ban on the sale of mercury-containing fluorescent tubes last summer and the discussion about global carbon reduction, the energy-efficient refurbishment of buildings has become a focal point for many German companies. "We can all do something to reduce costs and environmental impact and make our planet more sustainable."

As a partner for industrial lighting solutions, SchahlLED Lighting focuses on smart, controlled LED luminaires with stable wireless networking. "Modern light management systems utilise natural daylight and enable guaranteed energy savings of over 80% compared to old lighting systems with fluorescent tubes." Longevity, sustainability, complete digital control of the LED luminaires and short amortisation times are therefore decisive plus points when considering not only the energy-efficient refurbishment of old buildings, but also new construction projects.

SchahlLED Lighting also points out that measures for the installation of intelligent LED lighting are subsidised by government programmes. "If you want to implement new interior, exterior and emergency lighting without affecting your balance sheet and with tax-optimised financing, you need a strong and competent partner at your side," says Managing Director Carsten Weber. The company plans and manages turnkey projects for its customers throughout Germany, from the initial survey and lighting design through to commissioning. "The potential of light as an efficient, environmentally friendly resource is often not yet fully recognised." The International Day of Light also aims to draw attention to this.

THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF LIGHT

The International Day of Light was first proclaimed by UNESCO six years ago and commemorates the first successful scientific use of laser light on 16 May 1960 in the USA. Since then, the Day of Light has been celebrated annually on 16 May and is intended to highlight the importance of light-based technologies in education and science as well as art and culture for the sustainable development of the planet.
